The Rhode Island Energy Challenge

riecIn May 2013, SmartPower joined in a partnership with National Grid and Opower to create a high visibility, community-based, on-the-ground campaign to increase energy efficiency. The Rhode Island Energy Challenge: Find Your Four campaign resulted in a dynamic program that engaged thousands of Rhode Islanders to change their energy use behaviors by taking four energy actions in their home. SmartPower partnered with local municipalities, faith-based organizations, businesses and non-profit groups who committed to getting 5% of households to participate. National Grid’s recent survey of Challenge participants found that 75% said they were more aware of their energy use after participating in the Challenge. National Grid credits The Rhode Island Energy Challenge for significant increase in participation and savings in their home energy audit program, EnergyWise. They experienced over 3,000 more inquiries for EnergyWise compared to the prior year which result energy saving of 215% of their target MW savings goal. For more information about The Rhode Island Energy Challenge contact Malinda Howard at mhoward@smartpower.org.

National Grid RI recently attended the Energy Expo to meet with customers and highlight ways to save energy. Watch National Grid RI’s video from the day.

or colleague that you’ve done it. This is particularly important for renewable energy in the home, Keane said, because no brand name is associated with it. Nobody knows what furnace or water heater they have. “There’s no Coca Cola, no Pepsi.”
