Solarize Salisbury-Rowan brought SmartPower’s on-the-ground community outreach expertise to North Carolina. The campaign was made possible through a partnership between SmartPower and the Center for the Environment at Catawba College. Solarize Salisbury-Rowan was based on a proven “group buying” model that drives down the cost of solar while increasing participation. SmartPower teamed up with EnergySage, an on-line community marketplace for solar, to offer residents and businesses the convenience of comparing solar bids online. Expectations of success were high for Solarize Salisbury-Rowan since North Carolina boasts a 35% state tax incentive in addition to the 30% federal tax credit — making solar a smart investment and a proven way to lower energy bills.
