Connecticut Clean Energy Communities

Connecticut_Clean_Energy_Communities

Tasked by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund with increasing overall renewable energy sales in Connecticut, SmartPower designed the 20% by 2010™ campaign and its sister program, the Clean Energy Communities Campaign, to create effective marketing partnerships between municipal officials and households in communities across the state.

To meet these goals, SmartPower created strong stakeholder partnerships and offered a 1kW solar energy system incentive for meeting the 20% by 2010 milestone. We also deployed Clean Energy Community Challenges, competitions between neighboring city mayors that effectively tapped into community pride to maximize clean energy customer acquisition, far outpacing participation in other non-competing communities.

As of today, more than 100 Connecticut municipalities have earned Connecticut Clean Energy Community Status by committing to 20% by 2010 and engaging their residents around clean energy purchasing goals.

For more information about the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Campaign, contact Jonathan Edwards.

"Once complete, the portfolio will supply 25 megawatts of solar power and 80 megawatts of battery capacity, which Hawaiian Electric can use as electricity during hours when grid demand surges, as well as delivering rapid-fire fast frequency grid response."
