Via the infographical folks at GOOD, here’s a visual comparison of the efficiency of various vehicles.
It turns out that motorcycles – which require the lowest per-person, per-mile energy consumption – travel the least distance, on average, per year. Meanwhile, individual airplanes – which at capacity are more efficient than cars and buses,
but less efficient than motorcycles and trains – travel more than 1 million miles per year, on average.
